true of most primates

mothers eating their own young
as a source of nourishment
true of most primates
including the human race
devouring babies
mothers eating their own young
as a source of nourishment
as young teenagers
we dreamed of being older
setting our own rules
but alas the game was rigged
there are always still more rules
first driver’s license
young male proudly on a date
comes home very late
toilet hugged throughout the night
father’s car parked on the lawn
you have married a younger woman
she will outlive you leaving your grave unattended
aunt bea
sitting
in
her parlor
was leafing
through
an old
photo album
she laughed
and
said
now
here’s
a picture of you
with your
first
true love
i wrote
a poem
about you and her
well
mostly
about you…
out to save her world
bumping into his own dreams
thoughtless half-ass schemes
he sees not her age
only still his young new bride
his eyes full of pride
Vox’s Anand Katakam created an interactive map Police-involved deaths (2000-2015)
as i walked by
the bag prophet
he returned
a news paper
borrowed from me
this morning
and
in a voice
that feigned
empathy
said
i understand
from the press
that the officer
in texas
that threw
a young girl child
to ground
wasn’t
attempting
to grope her
or
threaten anyone
with his drawn weapon
he was
just having
a bad day
well i know
we all have
bad days
but
only a few
of us
get to carry guns
when we have one
and that
my dear friend
limits
my sympathy
quite a bit
ask any
proper adult
and
they will assure you
that the last dragon
died years ago
but
ask
any child
who knows
words to speak
and
whose eyes
have searched the clouds
and you will hear
quite a different story
you will hear of
dragons galore
in every form possible
doing things forbidden
even
i’ve heard
on sundays
but
that is quite
a different matter
my point being
dragons are
as they say
among us
but
their rediscovery
requires
removing the veil
of mature reality
and
reclaiming thoughts
of youth
and
then
and only then
can you see
the dragons
whose fiery breaths
light up the skies
