valentine’s day manifesto..

valentine's day manifesto

she said
we should make love
in
real-time
not
the kind
of love
based upon
forever afters
or
fulfilling dreams
of
unquenched passion
just the kind
of love
that is shared
between two souls
traversing the universe
like
shooting stars
certain to burnout
at
some point
but
during this
brief existence
we should enjoy
our moments
together
just like
the
last
twenty some years

valentine flowers…

valentine flowers

the brown bag prophet
was standing
down the street
from the flower shop
on valentine’s day
when he said
i’ve been watching
husbands
and lovers
buy flowers
all day
sometimes
two bunches
one
for the little lady
and
one
for their lover
both women
i’m sure
are aware
of the other
but find
no need
to step outside
their zone
of self-imposed ignorance
they’ll continue
to pretend to believe
that justice
will be served
and
that good
always wins
over
evil
and that
her
man
only lies
to
the other
woman

valentine’s day reprise…

digital decoupage cwmartin 2012

some guy
in an office
somewhere
has decided
to ruin my day
emphasizing
my loneliness
no valentine
for me
so
i’m
an outcast
a societal
hunchback
of notre dame
but
i’m not
going to cry
in my beer
i’m pouring
a glass of wine
lighting a fire
in the fireplace
and burning
all those old
valentine cards
you gave me
they’ll give off
a lot more
warmth
than you
ever did

image for a valentine’s aftermath…

she would sing to you a night song
but she has forgotten
the words
and she is uncertain about the tune
so she might speak to you
if she can but
recall what words to speak
or perhaps she shall only stare
at you
and hope that you can feel her thoughts
as you can feel the warmth
of her hands
against the base of your neck
