the long shower…

digital decoupage cwmartin 2011

stepping
into the shower
recalling
hands
surveying
every inch
of emotion’s flesh
water pulsating
like waves
of passion
on a forgotten night
sending
wayward thoughts
into a dream state
where moments
of ecstasy
crest
but soon
tears
break the spell
those few salty drops
replace
warm memories
a single towel
the only caress
tonight

a shower and a shave…

waking
before gravity
the lines around
his eyes
were less
prominent
a quick glance
in the mirror
would have
convinced him
that time
had chosen
to be kind
to him
but
shaving
seemed to awaken
gravity
and
before the last
swipe of the blade
age
had found
his face
and each line
returned
to its
place
and he
with resentful grace
accepted his place
in death’s
queue

before god….

last confession heard
weighted down
with others’ sins
labored steps home
shower on
needing to remove
pungent smell of incense
stains of cheap wine
robes removed
tossed aside
revealing torn t-shirt
naked before the mirror
stands a man
just a man
