ciudad santuario…

sassy little city
ain’t listening
to
nobody
dressing
as
she pleases
got
million of hearts
so
never misses
a beat
dares
to speak
in
tongues
without
any damn
divine inspiration
or
apology
to
xenophobic zealots
that
refuse
rights
to others
in
their stolen land
so she
lifts up her skirt
to give
the oppressed
someplace
to
hid
never revealing
where
or
how
they arrived
she merely
smiles
and
walks away
then
pulls
the curtain
of
night
leaving
the fools
sitting alone
in
the dark

no place like home…

this sad place
without relief
is home
each confinement cell
has been
carefully
designed
to imprison
dreams
we have all been
ushered here
like
repulsive rats
corralled
into
an inequity maze
from
geopolitical borders
borders near
america
australia
israel
greece
and
a host
of
other nations
each
with
its own brand
of
human humiliation
humiliation
intended
to
break the soul
into fragments
of
desperation
despicable crimes
against
those seeking freedom
policies
such as
separating families
knowing full well
family
was
why
freedom
was sought
in
the first place
how strange
that those
who
should be
most aware
refuse
to recall their own
history
stranger still
that the voice
of
hope
should be answered
with
the voice
of
death

as they pulled her child away…

holding her own hand
she looked into yesterday
and cried for today

divergent christmases…

presents neatly wrapped
children huddled together
fighting off their fears
wondering where their parents are
guards go home to families

who has truly committed crime…

child staring as darkness falls fears soon begin as do the tears
eyes searching the darkened cell hoping to find their parents’ eyes
their crime was the search for freedom but freedom’s dead and buried

freedom’s fairytale…

let’s read a story
to children held behind bars
this time one that’s true

ice cubed children…

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

their eyes seemed to say
we’re your unkept promises
yearning to breathe free
