whether you believe it or not…

whether you believe or not

death
has no
political affiliation
so
your religious fervor
for
one party
over
another
means
nothing
to death
your
grave
or
ashes
will
be
dealt with
without
prejudice
so
carry-on
with
your disdain
of
science
in the end
it
really
doesn’t matter

political parties…

sharing the same greed

When spirits touch is a collaboration of two artists in a unique collection of duel poetry and photography. Charles Wm Martin and River Urke gathered together their talents with words and eyes of aesthetic flare in this distinctive book of art. – Charles Wm. Martin and River Urke met online in 2010 and challenged each other to a duel of poetry. Their first poem revealed they had a special gift of blending their two voices to one.

political myrmecophiles…

marching side-by-side
proclaiming their shared values
feeding off our dead

ready for a close-up…

coached
rehearsed
dyed
polished
emotions
carefully placed
into a zip-loc
freezer bag
until the votes
are cast
and
counted
oh
but then
you
will
learn
the real contents
of that mislabeled bag
when it’s
exposed
to the heat
of truth

restraining order…

aunt bea
still retains her attorney
something about
an ungrateful son
whose
primary goal in life
is to draft her into
the hollywood knitting circle
at the you’ll-never-get-out nursing home
so I can’t say
i was surprised
to see him leaving
but
i’ve learned to broach
the subject gently
it’s
still her son
but before
i could say a word
aunt bea said
i’ve
requested a restraining order
oh
not for what’s his name
but
for the us congress
since joe-six-pac
and
susie-q
keep staring
at the severed head
of democracy
assuming
the whole body
is there
and
continue to vote
for the waxed figures
that occupy washington
i’ve decided
the only way
to save the country
and
to stop the damage
they’ve been doing
is to keep
them away
from washington
as long as
legally
possible
that
should be
a long time

turn to the last page…

as with
all
street festivals
sidewalk artists
create
imaginary scenes
to appease
all tastes
colored chalk cornucopias
filled with a harvest
of dreams
found only
in the pages
of camelot
no
sacrifice required
but
when the rain
of elections
is over
the streets
are
bare

a matter of state…

i asked aunt bea
if she’d
been following
the news
out of washingon
she said
she had
and
it reminded her
of one of her sisters
she’s
always
so busy
looking
important
that she’s
forgotten
what
is
important

a little cat n’ mouse…

now
the cat
being a political being
never
rushes into a fight
no
it just paws
at its prey
toying
with
the household citizens
before
the financial kill
not that it’s
hungry
or any thing
just
loves
to play
with the power
of
the position

stops here…

let’s do it
let’s stack them up
in the hallways
and
offices
of congress
each time
they vote
frivolously
or
at the beck and call
of the leader
of their political guild
and a life is lost
or tossed upon
society’s funeral pyre
let’s
put the bodies
where
they belong
at the feet
of
the guilty
