looky loos for peace…

looky-loos-for-peace

move along
don’t dillydally
there’s
nothing
to see
today’s
bloody words
of hate
won’t
debate
so
there’s
no need
for stares
or
prayers
just count
the graves
along
the way
if you need
something
to do
that makes
your journey
shorter
but know
those graves
are not
from today
but
from
the wars
of
yesterday
move along
hope
for peace
does not
belong
along
a freeway
of greed

eden revisited…

eden revisted...

no church bells
or
calls to prayer
have been heard
doves now rest
near sacred texts
doves
safer now
now
that man
is no more
for
his wars
have finally
brought about
nature’s reign
and
the long sought after
peace
peace
came quickly
such weapons
assured
no prolonged battles
death rained down
upon
humankind
with
well designed destruction
targeted
to
war’s given species
to
protect
the environment
for
survivors
of which
there were
none
how bright the sun
without
concrete structures
how quiet the night
without
human fights
how well
the earth
has become
without
its caretakers

the water cycle of war…

the water cycle of war

there is no new rain
thousand-year-old drops like tears
enter the ether

enter the ether
condense with greed’s coldness so
there is no new rain

there is no new rain
no ambrosia of peace to
enter the ether

songs in the night…

songs in the night

there were
no reasons
to sing
but
amal
sang the song
that
his parents
had taught him
as a child
amal the smart
his hair is fair and tidy
whoever loves you will kiss you
he paused
as
he placed
the last stone
on their grave
but whoever hates you
will have problems
he turned
and
walked
away
no longer
a child of ten
but
an old man
of war
singing
sleep
sleep
i wish
i could
have offered you
a dove

change in agenda…

change in agenda

a young pastor
stopped by
aunt bea’s
while i was there
delivering
a few items
she needed
for dinner
with bible
in hand
he said
we all need
to pray
for
justice
peace
and
love
aunt bea
said
you know
we’ve been
praying
for those things
for years
perhaps
we should be
praying
for
someone
to
listen

forget the sheep…

silver linings

i’ve been
carefully counting
all the stars
in the night sky
above
my
sleepless
head
i’ve been
told
each one
is
a dream
fulfilled
or
a faith
still held
the counting
has
helped me
make it
through
each day
why not
count
with me

avoiding the evening news blues…

avoiding the evening news blues

remember
that feeling
when
you finally
learned
how to tie
your shoe
after what
seemed to be
a thousand years
and
recall
how
your soul
soared
when
you had that
first
real kiss
from someone
who loved
just
you
after
so
many
lonely nights
i just
wanted
to remind you
that there
still
may be
hope
for this world
