rusted love…

rusted love

night
kissed
by moist
bay lips
lingering
aftertaste
of passion
in an empty bed
smoke
from a single
cigarette
rises
a burnt offering
to venus
no
thoughts
of tomorrow
all dreams
set sail
like peter pan
through
the open window
as harbor fog
blankets
naked promises
forgotten
with morning’s
first light

a moment of doubt…

his words
unlaced
her fears
baring
the shoulders
of her desires
desires long hidden
now pressed naked
against his chest
his gentle tones
nibbled softly
on her ear
his promises
like kisses
moved slowly
down her neck
and although
she approached
the dawn
with fear
a single rose
and
breakfast in bed
soothed
even
her fears

slave auction…

stripped naked
every flaw
was revealed
every scar
of promises
not kept
every mark left
by history’s lash
was open for
evaluation
by the buyer
but the flaws
of the buyer
were not revealed
like the history
of a country
whose own flesh
remains cloaked
in a myth
of freedom

before god….

last confession heard
weighted down
with others’ sins
labored steps home
shower on
needing to remove
pungent smell of incense
stains of cheap wine
robes removed
tossed aside
revealing torn t-shirt
naked before the mirror
stands a man
just a man
