just liking someone
doesn’t make them competent
as good intentions
don’t always lead to results
expected by the doer

since i had had

of
rather persistent
symptoms
i decided
to visit
my local physician
who
as
is most often
the case
was
not available
but
his
physician assistant
could
see me
after
discussing my concerns
it was pointed out
that
since
it had only happened
once
it probably wasn’t
necessary
to do
further testing
given
the symptoms
for the most part
had diminished
as i reviewed
this with aunt bea
i could see
she had an opinion
about
the whole event

said
of course
you can see the flaw
in that type
of
logic
right
since
death
only comes
once

as i can remember
had these
little superstitions
like
something about
a broom
and your feet
i just can’t recall
all the details
right now
but
she persisted
with her beliefs
in a number
of those types
of things
so
i asked
how she could
continue to believe
in such things
given the advances
in medicine
she looked me
square in the eye
and said
witch doctors
have traded in
their feathers
for white coats
