a gentle reminder…

your promissory note
came due
quite some time ago
but you can
keep the damn mule
i’m unemployed
and can’t afford
to feed it
anyhow
but
the land
would be nice
that way
i’ll have a place
to bury
these tired
old bones
when
i die
since
i can’t
afford
a funeral plot
either

the song…

once
long before war
before
grief’s tears
there was a land
a land
without
hate or envy
a place
of peace and joy
a paradise
where everyone
sang a song
a song
with just one word
love
but all these things changed
when one word
was added
to the song
me
love me

alice in political land…

so here it is
there was this bunny
he went down a hole
and this chick
follows
but falls hard
like during an election
so next thing
there’s this party
tea party
and everybody’s
hanging out
with the mad hatter
and talking
al’ bunch of stupid stuff
and the chick chimes in
like you know
drill baby
or something like that
and then
the rabbit hole starts
throbbing oil
like an artery’s been cut
or like that something
and the people
get a sudden
case of alzheimer’s
alzheimer’s
you know when someone
says i’ll call you tomorrow
and moves out of town instead
anyways they
start yelling
off with his head
off with his head
like the dude’s christ or something
an’ wha’
what
the moral of the story
well here it is
expectation will put your ass
in a sling faster than a speeding bullet

but what can i do…

the sand of the sahara
fears no man
nor pay homage
to graven images
on walls of up-scale malls
nor will it listen to your
whimper of
but what can i do
for it is the undefeated army
that marches on your cities
and villages
salting not only the earth of carthage
but every parcel of land in its wake
and it shall not stop
until you wake from your sleep
and see that one man is never alone
there is always another
standing in the shadow of fear
hidden from your view
within the ancient ruins
of political rhetoric
but you
you
do not hear
the timeless voices of the desert spirits
imploring you to listen
to see the vision of the future
when all that you will know
will be sand
sand
holding the ashes
of every conqueror of this land
and every dreamer
who chose
not
to
act
