the brown bag prophet
had begun
weekend preparations
he always says
that
fridays
and
saturdays
are
good days
party-goers
feel happy
to be
away from work
and
are more
generous
than those
who go to church
on sundays
perhaps
long sermons
anesthetize the giving-spirit
in any case
sundays
he says
are a waste
so
he focuses
his attention
on the party days
sundays
are saved
for cornering
unsuspecting tourists
posing questions
to singe
the edge of their consciousness
this week’s
barn burner
was
to test
absolute
vs
relative morality
he asked
how smart
do you have to be
to know
not to kill
and
if
intelligences
is
a factor
why do we kill
animals
cuz’
they’ve killed
a pet
or
livestock
to survive
when
they ‘re
presumed
not
to have
human intelligence
yet
we let
some
murders live
because
they’re considered
dumb
