at heaven’s gate…

at heaven's gate

the old monk
bent
from years
of
life’s trials
reached heaven
entering its gates
he passed a note
to
the gatekeeper
which read
is michael here
of course
was the reply
to which
the gatekeeper added
since
you’ve reached heaven
there’s no need
for
your vow of silence
so
feel free
to speak
and
ask
any of life’s deepest questions
with
a feeble voice
not used
in almost a century
the old monk
inquired
do you think he’ll teach me
that
moonwalk thing

go on down…

go on down
to jordan
go wading
in the water
wade away
your sins
wash them
so clean
that heaven’s gates
will open
just for you
when
that
sweet chariot
comes swinging low
low enough
to trouble
the water
now
don’t you
go getting concerned
cuz ‘
government folks
ain’t there
to see you rise
from the ashes
of life’s tribulation
they’re busy
busy
as usual
washing
the blood
of the poor
off their hands
