humans
they went
extinct
years ago
rumor is
there are
a few
living underground
in the mountains
war
cannibalizing earth
and other
self-destructive behaviors
brought their civilization
to an end
much like
the one
angkor
nature
is
slowly
reclaiming and restoring
the dead zones
most of the bodies
are
but ash
now
but
every now and then
we come across one
in our work
but
generally
they prove
to be
no problem
at least
not like
the old days

global warminig…

now
i don’t
much believe
in this
global warming
but
i could swear
i heard a howler monkey
outside last night
in my trees
and
i am having
difficulty
explaining the toucan
at my bird feeder
this morning
i may have to
reconsider
my position
on this issue
i mean
this is
alaska

necrotizing fasciitis…

open wounds
ooze volcanic puss
deep layers
stripped
of vital minerals
toxins released
overproduction
severe systemic illness
the patient
earth
terminal
the bacterium
causing it
man

sorry the tv’s off…

now
i know
it’s much too late
but
i need to head off
to walden pond
and share a cup of tea
with thoreau
all the current strife
and
saber rattling
has made me
turn off the news
i just refuse to hear
another political rationale
for killing people
so i want to shun
all conversations
of global anything
warming
war
or
reckless politicians
who believe that bloodletting
is an appropriate treatment
for the patient
even when
the patient
is dying
right in front of them
no
i just want
to sit
and contemplate
what the world
must
have been like
on that
first
day

honey
old man jones
has stepped of the precipice
of sanity
into the deep blue skies
of margaritaville
i mean to tell you
that old fool
has started acting
stranger than usual
he went out
got a lock for his pantry
electric fence for his garden
and enough ammunition
to defend fort knox
telling me
food’s gonna
be more valuable
than oil
you wait and see
he said
what
what do you mean
he makes sense
what world food crisis
what about Russia
so the sahara desert
is growing
what’s that got to do with
my super walmart store
you mean to tell me
that old fool
is right
what do you mean
where
am i going now
i’m off to walmart honey
i’ve got to get stuff
for my
food security system

puzzling the rainforest frog in the yard…

oh i’m certain
there ain’t no global warming
cuz i read in the church bulletin
it said
quite clearly
that god would
take care of us
so how could there be
global warming
but
some things
are startin’
to
bother me
like all those fires
and floods
all over the world
and why i’m
seeing creatures
in my neighborhood
that usually live
way down south
but
i’m not worried
well maybe
a little
concerned
but lord knows
well
at least
i hope she does

this dream…

is not your reality
but it is reality
i am a jaguar
moving through the jungle
of your consciousness
i am a shaman
healing the pain
within your heart
with herbs long forgot
by those
who cut the heart from the palm
and tossed it into the sky
creating the moon
the dust from its flight
formed the stars
in the night sky
my breath
created the night breeze
that gave flight
to the owl
that grasped within
its claws
the last fragment
of hope
that man
would save
this river
and the lives
along its shores
with the same mercy
shown to him
by the gods
themselves
