scorned memories…

did you
know
my name
before i died
did you
see
my face
outside
your window
holding up
the sun
when you were
afraid
of the dark
did you hear
my song
rocking you
to sleep
when the noise
of life
kept you awake
oh
i loved you
more
than you’ll
ever know
but
you
could not see
beyond
yesterday

should’ve thought about that…

first i thought
those missiles
fired at libya
could’ve fed
a lot of folks
each one
could’ve fed
ten families for a year
but then
i realized that i
had failed to consider
the obvious
missiles don’t last
forever
heaven knows
we shouldn’t waste them
that’d be a sin
and i
failed to consider
the training value
of learning to strike
military targets
no use having
fancy equipment
if no one knows
how to use it
and
i certainly failed
to consider
all the jobs
that would be created
to replace those missiles
so needed for our protection
yes
i must have been mad
to think
feeding children
was more important

locust….

winged lies
devour
youth’s memories
leaving
an adult
with
nothing more
than a field of vanity
barren of emotions
and
no seeds of joy

no not lately…

i got this old record
an edison
years ago
at a yard sale
back then
folks sold stuff
they didn’t need anymore
not because it was necessary
just to feed their families
it’s really quite interesting
you see to play it
you have to crank
the record player by hand
no electronic wizardry here
nor electric companies
trying to convince you that
voter’s rights are in danger
if local governments own
electric companies
no
just physical force from a machine
with a steel needle digging deep into the grooves
applying strong force to make it play
as it was initially presented
much like what you have to do
with the folks in government
just to hear something that resembles
a true recording of facts
oh sure
it’s got a lot of scratches
when it does play
and every now and then it skips
a beat or two
but it plays a hell of a lot truer
than the political promises
i’ve heard

adephagia’s diner…

just a second honey
let me clear this table for you
we just get so busy
right after church
i tell you
those last folks
ordered so much food
you’d think sherman’s army
was joining them for lunch
‘course
you can see that
by all the stuff left on this table
child
i bet they never heard
that old thing ’bout
starving children in china
course now days
it’s starving families
around the corner
well in some cases
on the corner
with
t h o s e
signs
it’s a good thing
our owner
sends these leftovers to the hog farm
otherwise
this would be
a
h o r r i b l e
waste
don’t you think so
now dear
what can i
get for
you
