a woman of honor…

the weight
of society
pressed hard
against her throat
like a soldier’s boot
bearing down
with anger
because
she had
survived
and now
was due
some benefit
for standing tall
in the streets
fighting side-by-side
with men
against tyranny
had she died
in that stuggle
her torment
would have been less
but like a fool
she trusted
that freedom
was
for all
and now
had
to pay
the price
for her
beliefs
