to foundational beliefs
mine was always doubt
as i see the world today
doubt has become certainty
in moments of doubt
we begin to cling to life
fear of the abyss
walls of sharp silence
surround their conversations
protecting their doubts
watching men
carrying stones
from
the river bank
to the village

could so
easily
manage more stones
than other men
bapa dola
said
the weight
of the stones
is changed
by
the doubt
and
fear
carried
in
each man’s heart
doubt
salt water
on an aging ship
though
washed away daily
and
covered with paint
it will rust
the finest
vessel
if we wash
away
all the stones
of doubt
will
the earth’s soul
be revealed
and
we
become
one
with it
or
will we find
that
we are
indeed
alone
so easy
to skew
the truth
when life
is in disarray
and fear transforms
belief into doubt
proudly raise your head
above other’s sea of doubt
breathe the air of truth
i could not see
iron bars
rusted from years
of her tears
nor could I see
a fortified confine
that held her in place
but she paced
back-and-forth
like a caged animal
never moving beyond
the thoughts and words
of others
barriers of sound
that held her
prisoner
to her own
doubts
