starting point…

starting point

we
so desperately
try not
to see
how time’s passed
we blame
failing eyes
for
the face in the mirror
and
move quickly by
as if
an apparition
has
inhabited
the glass
but
tomorrow’s view
remains the same
just older
seems like
there’s no place
to hide
ah
but
there’s makeup
guaranteed
to make you young
to smooth out
the lines
as if
you’re completely blind
but
you must use
the mirror

letting go…

letting go2

for years
mary lou
worked
for
the town’s
only
doctor’s wife
taking care
of
her children
preparing meals
cleaning
her house
and
ushering away
the numerous
gin bottles
scattered
all over the house
like
dust bunnies
so
the good doctor
wouldn’t find them
but
this refined lady
let mary lou go
saying
women like her
needed
one of those
foreign housekeepers
not
just
an old colored lady
so
mary lou
let go too
of
all
those well-kept
secrets
all over town

sympathetic vibration…

sympathic vibration

the keys
to
hell
have been placed
outside
your door
an
express delivery
no
signature needed
your life
has certified
the
delivery
good news
is
you’ve been given
a room
with
a view
where
you can
watch
the living hell
you’ve
created for others
but
the bad news
is
you’ll
feel their
pain

so you think you can dance…

she carefully
carved away
what was left
of his pride
from
fossilized memories
of love
and
romance
leaving him
standing alone
on the dance floor
under garish lights
while
she
finished her drink
by flickering candlelight
listening to ocean waves
in the comfort
of
his home
with
the doors
locked
