engaging but predictable…

an old poet

although the ending
has been
figured out
most people
seek to delay
reading
that final page
opting
to
reread
earlier chapters
wondering
how the outcome
might have been
different
maybe
a change in
dialogues
or
characters
would have altered
the conclusion
but
more likely
such changes
would have only
added
a chapter or two
without
affecting the end
plus
the current list
of
scenes
protagonists
and
antagonists
is what
has made
the book
so interesting
had we not been
so
engaged in the text
we
might
have noticed
how quickly
the end
was approaching
oh
even
scribbling
analytical notes
in
the margins
has not changed
what’s
on those
final lines
and
yet
we tarry
on
that
next to last page
our fingers poised
to turn
the page
afraid
of
what
we
know

dr seuss book burning…

i’m not certain
how it all began
but i’m guessing
it was just
a scam
but parents
from around
the land
came
because a man
said the books
should be banned
he held a bible
up in one hand
saying
the word
should be
the only
book
on a child’s nook
so
after a hearty breakfast
of green eggs
and ham
the mob
while children sobbed
stacked up
all the books
even the cat
in the hat
was set
on the pile
and
set them ablaze
in the morning haze
even tho
 i’ve tried
i’ll never
know why
perhaps he
misread
or was just
sick
in the head

been stared at blues…

i ain’t so dumb
i been to school
i’ve seen all kinds
of fancy fools
they read their books
and drink their wine
they pass their time
like all of us
sitting on
an invisible bus
travelling faster
all the time
destination undefined
snapping photos
as they go
do they really
see themselves
as i see you
and you see me
or are they blind
to humankind
and the fate
that binds us all
i see you staring
at my clothes
i see your thoughts
within your eyes
but there’s one thing
that you should know
i ain’t so dumb
i been to school
i’ve seen all kinds
of fancy fools
they read their books
just like you
