unleavened life…

you have begun
to believe
that death
will pass by
this night
since you have
painted the blood
of prayers
upon your door
but death
from the beginning
of the word
was born blind
unable to see
your prayers
and unwilling to hear
your pleas in the night
it crawls along
the ground
brushing against
your fears
just above your
consciousness
as you fade
into dreams
of tomorrow
that may
never
come

been stared at blues…

i ain’t so dumb
i been to school
i’ve seen all kinds
of fancy fools
they read their books
and drink their wine
they pass their time
like all of us
sitting on
an invisible bus
travelling faster
all the time
destination undefined
snapping photos
as they go
do they really
see themselves
as i see you
and you see me
or are they blind
to humankind
and the fate
that binds us all
i see you staring
at my clothes
i see your thoughts
within your eyes
but there’s one thing
that you should know
i ain’t so dumb
i been to school
i’ve seen all kinds
of fancy fools
they read their books
just like you

blind…

so much beauty
yet
few lift their eyes
from their toil
to see
what is before them
all the gifts of god
blocked from view
by the demands
of subsistence
and
the failure of the heart
stop
and
breathe
in the fragrance of life
listen
to the fog caressing the earth
walk with your head held high
see
the light of love
piercing
the darkness of the clouds

During the next few days, I will be on holiday…yes again…so I will be posting very few comments on your blogs…however I shall continue to post new poems here and hope that you will enjoy them.  Until then, cheers!

Challenge Photo IV from Jade

yesterday’s tears
are now morning’s fog
distorting my perceptions
confusing the mental
landmarks of my sanity
i deceive myself
a trance so tranquil
that i am blind
to my own blindness
my thoughts move slowly
suspended in the fog
a blurred rationality
but a desire to feel whole
not some fragment of myself
i am a child
crying out for comfort
but there is none
to be found
and while you embrace
another warm thought
of how you shall
revive my sanity
i listen carefully
to your words
moving without sound
through the air
and
i agree
to whatever you have said
knowing only that i
am lost in the darkness

This poem represents my fourth response to  the second challenge series between Jade and I.  As you may recall, each poet provides the other with a series of photos, visual prompts,  from which the poet is to write a poem.  Jade has written her response which can be found here
