your growing regret …

your regret will not
breathe life into those who’ve died
so just save your breath
don’t burden us with more lies
of your spineless behavior

colorless future…

don’t see no rainbows
nothing but death’s cold gray sky
ain’t  pessimistic
just student of history
still waiting for that damn mule

bequeathed…

these
are
inherited tears
part
of
our estate
for
over two hundred years
of
enslavement
oh
it’s not
that
there weren’t
other items
business accounts
land
and
such
but
those were
appropriated
along with
personal dignity
in order
to justify
a false sense
of
superiority
of
primitive people
who
left to their own devices
were
unable to survive
in
a truly competitive world
so
were given
what
was ours
so
we were left
with
inherited tears
and
rage

rat in the shed….

not sure
if
you’ve ever
had
a tree rat
but
like most rats
they
don’t seem
to
get stressed
very
easily
no matter
what course
of
action
you take
they’re
just
difficult
to remove
it’s not that
i
haven’t tried
every
legal means
of
removal
but
the rat
keeps wanting
to
hide out
from
the reckoning
that will
no doubt
occur
if it’s rooted
from
it’s
whitehouse-like
fiefdom
but
i’m pretty sure
with
a little more time
and
effort
the rat’s days
are
numbered

cannibals…

you’ve
sworn off meat
out of
your
considerable concern
for
animal welfare
and
as a protest
of
how cruelly
such docile beast
are treated
but
though
it’s
not
on the label
the warehouse
frozen
discount fish
you eat
was caught
by
enslaved fishermen
so
you are
partaking
of
their flesh
and
blood

other people’s problems…

their tears and sadness
should not disturb your night’s sleep
sounds outside your door
should be ignored but you might
have to lock doors tomorrow

the road to pain…

with
stones of doubt
stuffed
into a backpack
the journey
begins
emotions
on
uneven footing
at first
there’s
a willingness
to
step over
shattered expectations
then
comes
compromising
on
the path
to
be taken
traveling
in
darkness
instead
of
the light
small clearings
from
chaos
give a false sense
of
hope
but
soon
brambles
of
hate and injustice
narrow
the aimless course
days
become nights
nights
become sadness
sadness
becomes
an eternity
