an offering

the crushed bodies

parents’ children
given
to a nation’s pride
to
the left
were prayer flags
and
written prayers
offerings
to
man’s creation
of
god
the center altar
seemed empty
but
it was said
that
it held
the souls
of
believers
offerings
to
an unseen god
offerings
of
a lifetime
with
no visible reward
for
the sacrifice made
only
what the heart
has lead

to offer
