sustaining order…

there are
no prophets
outside my door
nor
wise men
expounding great truths
just
a pack
of
fools
drooling words
like
some poisonous dragon
waiting
to devour
helpless prey
prey
stunned
by
their noxious existence
in a world
once
claimed
to be
full of promise
but
the promise
was
just
snake oil
sweet to the taste
but
unable
to heal
a damn thing
but
people
still queue up
to buy
other’s packaged dreams
many
on
bended knees
others
waving flags
or
hand printed posters
designating
their
personal
causes
usually written
with
eye-catching clauses
conveying
preprogrammed beliefs
that
they never
understood
they
merely
accepted
so
now they walk
single file
into
the abyss

  1. Charles, I do believe a generation or two of parents have given so much to their children that we have generations growing up believing that life should be easy and material things plentiful. We also have social media advertising telling us that we deserve it all (i.e., shouldn’t have to work for it). If they have to work hard and live from paycheck to paycheck they feel that someone is cheating them out of their due rewards. They then become vulnerable to false prophets. Obviously your poem jabbed an anger in me. Good job, friend!
