narrow thinking…

narrow thinking

a fool and a wise man
met on a narrow
mountain path
the fool
was rushing down
while
the wise man
was ascending
the sage
insisted that the fool
clear the path
for one
with
such great knowledge
of the world
the fool
acquiesced
acknowledging
the scholar’s rank
and so it was
the wise man
ascended the path
and
upon turning
the corner
was devoured
by a mountain lion
since the lion’s hunger
was now satisfied
the fool turned
to continued his climb
for even a fool knows
that wisdom sometimes
must be sacrificed
to reach one’s true goal
