they will drink the wine…

they will drink the win

the wine
they hold
is not
for communion
and
the flowers
they hold
are
unwanted gifts
gifts
you offered
in blind belief
to political prophets
go on
believing
as they swagger
before cameras
posing with
unconcerned smiles
and
narrow bloodshot eyes
eyes
which look pass
the faces on skid row
as well as
those mowing
manicured suburban lawns
go on
believing
ah
babies kissed
promises made
for
eyesight to the blind
flames of fear fanned
and
after
the votes are cast
you can
pickup
the flowers

  1. Fab poem, don’t get me wrong because of my question (which was hard to get past the most fascinating distraction, so it’s good you read your poetry and I could close my eyes to listen to the words): what else other than Shakespeare does it say on the wineglass? and is it from a reflection on the book, or is that actually on the wineglass?
