don’t forget who they were…

don't forget who they were

death wears away
the stone memories
of yesterday
when
parents
invincible
in our eyes
lived
magical lives
so we
hurried off
into
our own lives
never
really considering
theirs
had
an
end
and we
from our
naiveté
arise
staring
into
now vacant eyes
but
we must
recall
the vibrant souls
that defied
death
for so long
and
touch
once again
the hem
of humanity

  1. Charlie, love these sentiments, you have expressed them well. We are who we are because of those who went before us, but children are meant to go their own way, it is a parents job to let go of us that we may grow. They have done their job well, if we have many memories to keep them alive in our hearts.

  2. I go to college several hundred miles away from my parents but I am lucky to still be able to talk to them…can’t imagine what it will be like when they are truly gone.
