in its own place…

in its own place

with blackened blood
the soldiers
have written
several letters
to the gods
who hold up
the sky-of-dreams
that shield
their unborn children
from the truth
children
who
already
have graves
dug in the fetid soil
of life’s tomorrow
greed’s jaundice hands
have prepared them
a one-size-fits-all poverty
where
unsolicited dreams
like tunes from some
pied piper of despair
lead the children
into darkness
an emptiness
holding only
a holy grail
of vapor
placed
ever so
strategically
within their reach
and
they reach
falling
as planned
into
their tombs
to be
enclosed
forever
within the walls
of another’s
desires
