with the cage door open…

with the cage door open

i could not see
iron bars
rusted from years
of her tears
nor could I see
a fortified confine
that held her in place
but she paced
back-and-forth
like a caged animal
never moving beyond
the thoughts and words
of others
barriers of sound
that held her
prisoner
to her own
doubts

To order my books click on a book cover…that’s the only commercial on this page that’s mine…others are placed without my approval or permission.
