i am not
it’s the way
i’m not crying
children die everyday
and i would be
foolish to cry
about their deaths
the world is full
of horror stories
let’s just forget
the whole damn thing
you write on that razor’s edge, Charles… good to see
Powerpacked! As ever!
If only the word powerless were abolished! If only tears flowed only out of joy… Sighhh
I have severe allergies as well. It’s not tears, just allergies, of course.
it is a dig at the indifference of man to starvation, suffering and sadness.
so very beautifully sculpted. some sufferings cant be replaced with “happy thoughts”
Damn, those last couple of lines are like a punch in the gut. Love the way you so often drive your point home at the end. Great poem, Charlie.
“merely” a scary word in your context– powerful, my friend.
Amazingly powerful words. Your ending is phenomenal!
They seem to want us to ‘think happy thoughts’ over here, too, Charles, in the hope that we’ll ‘forget the whole damn thing’. Thank goodness there are people like you who are still prepared to challenge them – and us.
Very powerful and much truth to the message.
Your poems always get me thinking Charles – we must cry for the children and help them all we can.
this gave me a bittersweet feeling.. nice post
It is only those that do weep that really appreciate the smile. Nice.
Defensiveness…exasperation…acceptance…rejection…all wrapped in this package. Well done Charles.
why cry when there is so much to be heartbroken about
it sayz it C…
I know a few who prefer to think happy thoughts and never confront or challenge the truths of the world – it’s as unhealthy as the opposite extreme – good one, Charles
You write such powerful poems — this one really hits home about denial.
Telling it like it is. We need to hear it sometimes. WOW. So powerful.
Crier for hire! Expensive for you; free for me.
I know about death. Hope you will be ok. I expect so. Love and light.
