the shattered bones
of our forefathers
can be found
beneath
the foundations
and
railways
of this country
their dreams
ground into the mortar
used to bond
the bricks of greed
forming the halls
of blind justice
where
descendants
are ushered through
to steal
what is left
of their pride
as
a small token
of
society’s appreciation
for
their forefathers’ sacrifice
those
demanding equality
will be given
their
day in court
but
it will not matter
all
shall be buried
in the shallow grave
of deceit
well, why is this stupid site asking me to log in everytime i am trying to put a comment i dont know.
hope it will work this time.
a painful truth true in every nation charles, only the skeletons change. in some countries they are slaves, in majority they are poor.
Rightly said. Everything lies burried with their bones.
your first lines gave me goose bumps…the shattered bones beneath the foundations and railways..dreams ground into mortar…strong images..they worked so hard to build a better place..
I’m fascinated by the notion of our buried forefathers serving as the foundation for our current mistakes and misdeeds. There has to also be a poem to be written about the fact that the national monument is now sinking–since the earthquake in DC this past year.
As always Charles, excellent thought provoking poetry-
Great poem, Charlie – and sadly true, once again. Thanks for making us think….
In death, democracy.
