this road is longer than i thought much harder to climb than promised too many hours spent praying with nothing to show except some bruised knees and empty dreams all those expectations of what life would be are nothing more than words written on winter’s frosted glass before sunrise
nice capture of life’s essential meaninglessness – it’s up to the individual to give it meaning, isn’t it? for me, reading, your poem contains a world of meaning.

it’s as if what preceded was painted in flat black on white, and suddenly, a world of dimension and colour opens up. brilliant!
A certain hopelessness comes thru to me. That’s sad. It always amazes me that people seem to want instant answers to their prayers, He is faithful to those who love him, but what we ask comes in His timing not ours. One doesn’t know for sure that there is nothing to show for all those prayers, one needs to keep faith and hope in their life, we do not know what He has planned for us.
a truth sooner people realize the better for them. sometimes prayers work but not as the power that makes things get done but as the motivational force.
So melancholic… Very much a description of life’s challenge – one that has been called the divine dichotomy of life. 🙂
I can relate to this poem so strongly at the moment it is almost as if you were reading my thoughts. WOW. Amazing!
It is disappointments all the way.
there is a weary wisdom to these words Charles…

Ah, love the notion of “weary wisdom.” I, myself, feel pretty tired these days, as well. Take care, my friend!
Your last image is brilliant! Kudos!
iCat Says: It’s also know as the “terrible dailiness”.
However, the poet Leonard Cohen, said it very well: “There’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.”
You expressed the “terrible dailiness” very well. Good job. 🙂
that’s a hard place to be…cause what is left then.. very well penned charles with all the sadness and emptiness..

If expectations melted away that easily …

I agree with the other commenter — that last image is wonderful.
really really lovely… who cannot relate to this?
I love being alive and being able to dream. 🙂
It does catch us, doesn’t it? It is a long road – yet the trip zips by.
Weary. Indeed.
Sad.
