dining alone…

why is it
that you continue
to set a place
at the table
for the dead
do you
not
understand
they will not
take your hand
and
join this feast
of grief
for
they have long
forgotten
this place
and
your name
but
will recall both
when
the table
is cleared
and
there’ re
no more
diners
at the table
of
life

  1. Sounds like they are just missing that someone who was special in their life and they loved greatly. I like to think those I love are still watching over me, even though they are not here with me anymore.

  2. Brilliant. when my little brother died we set a place at the table for him anyway, for the longest time. The kids in the family were in charge of the table setting you see.. lucky you were not around to tell us not to.. c
