an empty grave you walk by it as if you don’t know that it may be for you staring pass it as if it is a beggar on the street but like the beggar it is willing to wait for your return
We ignore the beggar because he reminds us of what we are “supposed” to truly be–giving, expecting nothing in return, charitable…but the beggar is just a reminder, isn’t he? He’s no different than us. Death is as patient as the beggar. But I wonder, will the grave be less disturbing if we allow it to remind us of who we really should be? Love this poem.
” Death is the destination we all share. It is very likely the best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new” Steve Jobs 2005. Thank you for a wonderful poem, I kind of like the idea of my death making way for perhaps another genius in this world. It gives it a more positive outlook.
And it is a very patient beggar, eh, Charlie?
Grave is waiting for all of us.
Hauntingly appropriate for All Soul’s Day or the Day of the Dead.
this is scary and sad truth..just wait long enough…and well..

no escaping the inevitable
The most fascinating thing about human beings is that we simply do not conceive of our own deaths.
Creepy! But it is so fantastic!
oh yeah? Well, I ain’t going back that way, and you can’t make me! lol 😉
Just kidding… love the metaphor… the wheel goes round…
Nice one, Charles.
Sent a shiver up my spine, this fine poem!

The great equalizer; and, yes, we do walk around in denial. Well stated.
ooo, appropriately creepy for the day, my friend.
amazing poem charles. we all try to play hide and seek with death.
Death is something no one can avoid. It is a statement that I have often pondered. I enjoy your way of saying this.
