sorry the tv’s off…

now
i know
it’s much too late
but
i need to head off
to walden pond
and share a cup of tea
with thoreau
all the current strife
and
saber rattling
has made me
turn off the news
i just refuse to hear
another political rationale
for killing people
so i want to shun
all conversations
of global anything
warming
war
or
reckless politicians
who believe that bloodletting
is an appropriate treatment
for the patient
even when
the patient
is dying
right in front of them
no
i just want
to sit
and contemplate
what the world
must
have been like
on that
first
day

  1. I wish I could go hang out with Thoreau…as for the TV being off, the news…that’s done already…I can’t stomach it.
    blessings, and a beautiful piece…strong.

  2. Beautiful sentiments – just the earth below our feet, the wind rustling around, the birds gently singing .. and the sun warming us up .. peace for the whole world … your words are so right for us all now .. Hilary

  3. I agree 100%. That’s why I backpack. It’s surprising when I am out in nature, how my constant search for entertainment fizzles and my spirit is quiet. Sometimes I don’t want to come home…

  5. Really like this one! I appreciate your recent variety of poem themes – it’s fun to not know what interesting new idea to expect from you from day to day.
