Point-Counter Point Challenge: For those of you have been following the challenges between Jade and I, you are aware that several challenges have taken place over the course of the last few months. This time, the challenge was to be initiated by me and I decided to change the rules a little…well a lot. Here’s how it works this time. Each poet provides the other poet with five quotations that must be addressed from the opposite point of view as the original quote. Here is the third quote that Jade provided to me: “The art of knowing is knowing what to ignore.” – Rumi
All living souls welcome whatever they are ready to cope with; all else they ignore, or pronounce to be monstrous and wrong, or deny to be possible.
George Santayana
My absolute favorite so far! This is beautiful beautiful beautiful! Thank you for such a versed wonder!
This is a profound poem, Charles. I’m going to post the Rumi quote on my facebook page, too… 🙂
Yes, it is.
to the point! clean! provocative! well-done, Charles.
life is to be loved to its full potential and intesity and hence all rainbow colours are to loved to the brim…….beautiful, thought provokingpoem.
So few words yet so profound. Fabulous and poignant, my friend.
Beautiful words from Rumi. Ingnorance is not bliss, or so it seems …
Peace and blessings,

Excellent poem…took me to a place if deep reflection.
i so agree with you. beautiful, wise and true.
Amazing use of repetition to get the point across. You really got me thinking far more than the philosophy paper I should be reading at the moment. Thanks for opening my mind.
I agree with what you’re saying, except perhaps for the prophets bit – not much into prophets. Wish I knew the context for that Rumi quote…
It is part of a larger collection of thoughts on fear generally ascribed to Rumi – now obviously, all data passed down from centuries ago is to a higher or lesser degree a compendium of the best thoughts of the time, ascribed to someone who happened to be identified with the times themselves…
Another one stating a similar point is:
“Ignore those that make you fearful and sad, that degrade you back towards disease and death.” (by Rumi too)
lovely…we are created and called…to SEE and to LOVE.
blessings–

What to ignore—I vote for HOUSEWORK and mowing lawns.
Seriously, this quote reminds me more of not picking between equally important things but rather comprehending what is important and what is NOT.
Great image to accompany poem!
perfecto !! you did prove rumi wrong 😉
Amazing Charles, thought provoking and love the Rumi quote. Brilliant my friend xx
I love the way you address the concepts of narrow mindedness, bigotry, lack of love
you positively remind the reader where our focus should be
Moon smiles for yet another day
this is exceptional slp… rumi is one of my all time favourites and that quote…
simple yet profound… makes its point quite neatly… one of my favorites of yours I think
