beneath the earth
the army of the dead
move in unison
to the rolling pitch
of the underground train
marching to the surface
passing the roach infested
dark alleys of shadow people
the ones who beg for alms
as the hollow souls scurry past
the army must stay its course
headed for their burial abodes
crypts of glass and polished steel
for they have bartered their souls
for transient wealth and fame
a bloodless coup of a nation
where only pleasures of the flesh
are considered worthy
but at night
flickering news stories
of the anger
of those who sought alms
makes every shadow
on the walls
a creeping fear
that makes even
Transient wealth and fame … perfect words for the futility of it all.
Good night, my friend.

I think that is enough of such dark, depressing music. Listening to it could drive anyone into depression.
A very dark tone that went well with the audio…an enjoyable poem to read.
This is simply awesome… loved every line… beautifully crafted 🙂
I love the last two lines. Very powerful imagery. Congratulations on another great challenge.
Love this, the music and words equal partners in evoking the images in my mind. Just amazing!
Your words and the music took me directly to the catacombs of Paris! Wild and dark. wow
I actually felt a chill while listening to the music with your voice in the background!! Awesome Charles and have to congratulate you on always making this an entertaining experience!! Hugs xx

Dark and somber, truth exposed. Beautiful, Charles.
Love it! It was neat to read & wonder what the meaning was then to suddenly understand! I could picture all those zombies in suits 🙂
