inside
the darkened room
embers of hope
on the hearth
of tomorrow
outside
an arsenal
of territorial revenge
and anger
piercing today
with
sharp-edged fears
blocking entrance
into dreams
of
something
other than
what
has
always
been

and so we all do dream– lovely, Charles
eerie truth, well written.
the…sharp-edged fears
blocking entrance
into dreams….was what hit me most here.. fears def. Do block and rob us of so many things
The image goes vey well with the words.
full on …good work
Fear does create blocks and we do all dream. A thoughtful piece.
This has got a sting…
Timely… the streets of Chicago are indeed an ‘arsenal of territorial revenge and anger” … am I wrong in seeing the last part, about blocking entrance into dreams of other than what is is as a reference to poverty and the inner-city, where it seems people, still, sadly, never seem to be able to escape — or, maybe it’s not that they can’t escape, but that we keep them there…
Or, am I reading your poem all wrong?
John…although each person reads different elements of their life into a poem…this poem was based upon current daily life for children in Chicago…thanks for reading and commenting.
cruel reality.
