chicago streets

inside
the darkened room
embers of hope
on the hearth

outside
an arsenal

with
sharp-edged fears
blocking entrance
into dreams

  1. Timely… the streets of Chicago are indeed an ‘arsenal of territorial revenge and anger” … am I wrong in seeing the last part, about blocking entrance into dreams of other than what is is as a reference to poverty and the inner-city, where it seems people, still, sadly, never seem to be able to escape — or, maybe it’s not that they can’t escape, but that we keep them there…

Or, am I reading your poem all wrong?

    • John…although each person reads different elements of their life into a poem…this poem was based upon current daily life for children in Chicago…thanks for reading and commenting.
